What is on average?

On average refers to the statistical measure of the central tendency of a given data set. It is calculated by summing all the data points in the set and dividing the sum by the total number of data points.

For example, if a class has 20 students and their test scores were 70, 80, 90, 85, and 60, then the average or mean score would be (70+80+90+85+60)/5 = 77.

On average is a useful tool to interpret and analyze data because it gives a sense of what is typical or expected for the given set of values. However, it may not be representative of the entire data set if there are significant outliers or variations within the data.
